Amazon quietly raised prices overnight across several of its best known device lines, including Echo speakers, Fire TV streaming devices, Kindle e-readers, and eero mesh routers, according to Fortune. Ring products were notably left out of the increases.

The jumps are steep in places. The Echo Dot went from $49.99 to $79.99, and the Echo Show 11 rose from $219.99 to $249.99. On the Kindle side, the base 16GB model climbed from $109.99 to $149.99, while the 16GB Kindle Paperwhite went from $159.99 to $199.99. Fire TV devices saw increases too, with the Fire TV Stick HD moving from $34.99 to $39.99 and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max jumping from $59.99 to $84.99. Eero's mesh routers were not spared either, with the Eero 7 rising from $349.99 to $399.99 and the Eero Pro 7 climbing from $699.99 to $799.99.

Amazon attributed the increases to what it described as significant increases in memory and storage component costs, saying it had absorbed those rising costs on its own for a period before adjusting prices to reflect them.

The underlying driver is a memory chip shortage that has been building as AI compute demand soaks up global supply. Amazon is not alone in responding this way. Apple, Microsoft, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Asus have all either raised prices or trimmed the storage configurations they offer at a given price point in recent months as the same cost pressure works its way through the industry.

The move is notable for a company that has built much of its hardware strategy around keeping devices cheap enough to widen its ecosystem, and it lands just as Amazon prepares for a fall product showcase, raising the question of how the company will price whatever new devices it unveils against a backdrop of rising component costs across the board.
