MrBeast's Company Is Starting to Look Like a Fortune 500 Holding Company, Not a YouTube Channel
Jimmy Donaldson's Beast Industries now runs a chocolate brand, a burger chain, and a fintech app alongside his 522-million-subscriber channel, and investor Steven Bartlett says it's the clearest sign yet of where the creator economy is headed.
Jimmy Donaldson, known to his 522 million YouTube subscribers as MrBeast, started uploading videos at 13 with a Minecraft walkthrough, almost 15 years ago. Today, Beast Industries, the North Carolina-based holding company built around him, is valued at roughly $5 billion and employs more than 1,000 people, spanning a chocolate brand, a burger chain, a production company, an Amazon deal, and, as of February 2026, the fintech app Step, which it acquired outright.
The company's structure has grown well beyond a single creator running the show. Jeffrey Housenbold joined as president and chief operating officer in May 2024 and was promoted to chief executive by that September, while Donaldson has stayed on as majority owner and creative head, focused on content rather than day-to-day management.
Steven Bartlett, an investor in the company and host of the "Diary of a CEO" podcast, argues Donaldson's operation increasingly resembles "a Fortune 500 holding company" rather than a creator's media business. He pushes back on the idea that Donaldson is simply an influencer: "You are an owner or cofounder," he says, pointing to the equity and operating structure underneath the brand rather than just its content output.
Bartlett frames this as the latest stage in a broader shift he's mapped across the creator economy, moving from simple billboard-style brand deals, to creators taking on creative-director roles, to equity partnerships, to creators becoming actual business cofounders, and finally to M&A-active companies that behave like Fortune 500 operators. He points to similar trajectories at Linus Sebastian's Linus Media Group, where merchandise alone generated nearly a third of revenue in 2022, as well as at Logan Paul and Jake Paul's ventures, as evidence the pattern isn't unique to Donaldson.
